Halong bay….Or more exactly Lan Ha Bay

When we speak about Vietnam, the first think which comes in mind is Halong bay. You don’t know it?? But it’s a Unesco World Heritage!!!

Halong bay is composed by thousands of limestone rocks coming out of the water. “Halong” means “descending dragon” in old Vietnamese. Actually, the legend says that a dragon – a magic and veneered animal in Vietnam – came into the sea to master the currents. While struggling against the ocean, his tail damaged the mountains and formed all these rocks.

But Halong is becoming more and more touristic. Many boats travel through and the place loses its “enchantment”… So we chose another option: to visit Lan Ha Bay instead of Halong Bay. It has the same landscape with limestone rocks but it is still preserve from mass tourism. And visiting it with private boat in a 2 day cruise, was definitely the best choice!

This cruise is expensive but the travel agency Vietnam Insolite, made us a discount to support our project! We boarded in “our” Catba Legend boat! Once our luggage installed in our cabin, we met the cabin crew: one technician, one commandant, one cook and one guide!!! 4 people just for both of us, we are not used to it ;-)

We started our trip on the water, in the middle of an amazing landscape.

After a seafood lunch, we kayaked in a salted lake and we discovered our boat in all its splendour: with its 2 sails “out”!!! Unfortunately the wind was too weak for sailing so we used the motor but let the sails for the beauty!!!

Lying in our deck chairs, we enjoyed the bay until sunset. The boat anchored then in a quiet place and after a delicious seafood meal we did few light paintings before going to our private cabin for the night!

The next morning, the day wasn’t so great but this didn’t refrain us from enjoying our deck chairs one last time (after having savoured pancakes for the breakfast).

The trip is already finished… We are back to the shore…. We loved our cruise and we appreciated the fact that we navigated on off beaten tracks… Only few boats met, no noise!!! Perfect!!! Just few degrees were missing to allow us to swim!!!
