From Perth to Karijini : Welcome in the Outback

After our road trip in the South of Perth, let’s go to the North!!! We share this trip with 3 Swedish girls: Sofie, Jessica and Alex!!! You will soon discover that the North is B-E-A-U-T-I-F-U-L!!! And as you’ll also see, everyone can find something: white sand beaches, amazing gorges and mountains,.. and always the feeling that you are alone in the world!!!

Our first stop: the pinnacles desert! In the middle of nowhere, we find some big stones (almost looking like big stalagmites) from different sizes. This geological wonder is still a mystery for the science! Different theories try to explain it but none of them is 100% sure. Was there a huge forest and the roots as been “trapped” within the calcium formation to leave these beauties after erosion made its works? Or was the forest so dense that the calcium was “blocked” between the trunks? Or is it something else??? Sometimes it is good to stay without any answer!!! It reminds us that nature is stronger than us and it also lets place for dreaming and thinking! Was is your own theory?

We then moved to Kalbarri, a National Park between land and sea: we walked along beautiful cliffs and we discovered some wonders such as a natural bridge or a natural window in the impressive and red gorges!!! Unfortunately there were too many flies!!!!! I swallowed one, beurk!

As you know already, we love animals, so we couldn’t resist seeing the dolphins in Monkey Mia. We were lucky enough to feed them (or let’s say to give them a treats because a fully grown dolphin needs 12 kilogrammes of fish per day and we gave her only 250 grams!!! Dolphins live up to 40 years old and can get babies when they are 10 years old. The calves are breast fed 2 during 2 years. They live in group (or party) that they choose by themselves. During his life a dolphin can change friends.)

But the best encounter was with “Sharkou”!!!”Sharkou” is the whale shark we swam with for more than 40 minutes in the turquoise waters of Exmouth!! We did this trip with Charter 1 and its lovely crew!! After some snorkelling to get confident, let’s go for the experience of a life!!! Helped by a plane we move toward the biggest fish of the ocean… but this one dived deep before we came… Arggg!!! Fortunately, we met one whale shark just near our boat while scanning intensively the water! 3…2…1…Go, we are swimming with this giant ! Sharkou (its how we named it) is approximately 4,5m big ! It is still a young one because they can be up to 18 meters!! We don’t know a lot of things about them! They eat small fishes and planktons as they are filter feeders! They can dive up to 3000 meters deep (that’s why it is difficult to follow them)!!! It was really impressive to swim with him, so big and so smooth!!! A nice encounter! Thank you Charter 1!

After that we moved to Karijini National Park, a park in the outback!!! On the large roads you can drive more than 2 hours without seeing anybody!!! Better not to have a problem with your car!!! So this park is far away but it really worth it! In 2 days we climbed the second highest peak in Western Australia (only 1285m) and we walked (and swam) in beautiful gorges! Sometimes climbing, other times walking in the water, we arrived in big natural pools surrounded by red high cliffs!!! Just amazing!!!
